The Embassy of Switzerland in Riyadh organized a National Day celebration on October 9th, 2019. Ambassador Andre Schaller and his wife Brigitte Schaller-Schoepf hosted more than 800 guests at the Swiss residence: ambassadors, high-level officials, diplomats, businessmen/women, members of the Saudi civil society, and members of the Swiss community in Saudi Arabia.
Delightful decoration created a unique ambiance and the guests were presented with delicious food, including some traditional Swiss meals. A special highlight was the raclette station serving the typical hot cheese dish. A photo booth with a Swiss mountain background and a big cow model provided the guests with a personal memory to take home.
The famous Swiss artist and TV Star Nicolas Senn entertained the event with his play on the “Hackbrett” (hammered dulcimer), a musical instrument that has similarities with the Saudi “Kanun”. The virtuous musician combined traditional Swiss pieces with modern songs and Saudi melodies.
The strong and friendly ties between the two countries was highlighted by the attendance in the ceremonial part of the Governor of Riyadh, Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The evening peaked in the play of the Swiss and Saudi national anthems and in the speech of the Swiss Ambassador who pointed out the friendship and collaboration between the two states.
