While a man walks away from himself, he comes apart and gradually loses his brightness. Although he feels lonely, lost, and confused, he keeps walking. He does not know where he should go or what to do, but he keeps moving from mirage to mirage in the hope of finding himself again. The art of psychotherapy is how to create a safe place to help a man understand and empathize with himself. Hence, he may trace his long journey and collect all pieces together again. Therefore, what does this journey look like from the inside?

In this journey, we learn about our conditions, moods, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. Moreover, we learn to understand how to control our lives and respond to challenging situations along with healthy coping skills. 

There are various approaches to psychotherapy such as Attachment-based, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Compassion Focused Dialectical (DBT), Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), etc. Situations and a person’s needs determine the appropriate therapy approach that might be used. 

In addition, psychotherapy is known as counseling, talk therapy, psychosocial therapy, or therapy. Sometimes we (the therapists) use an additional combination allied with psychotherapy such as home visits for marriage and family therapy, animal-assisted therapy, and creative arts therapy like drawing or painting, dance, drama, or music.

Eventually, not everyone who undergoes psychotherapy is diagnosed with mental illness. Psychotherapy can help to:

● Resolve conflicts.

● Cope with significant life changes.

● Understand unhealthy reactions.

● Relieve anxiety or stress.

● Recover from abuse, trauma, or witnessing violence.

● Cope with sexual problems and sleep better.

On the other side, psychotherapy may help to increase people’s awareness, improve the quality of life, and develop skills.

How do I know if I need help?

Try to answer the scale of 10 for each following Items and check if the total is below 25, it might indicate that you need help:

● Your satisfaction of life 10/

● Quality of Sleep 10/

● Appetite 10/

● Energy 10/
