The Art in Cosmetic Surgery

Beauty is universal. However, our beauty ideals have been shaped by various factors, whether it be cultural, historical or modern influences and trends. The ideals that women are asked to embody are quite challenging and more pressure has been exerted nowadays in this social media era. Physical ideas are changeable and shift from time to time, but what’s important is your own definition and notion of “beautiful”. Beauty must come from your aspiration to improve yourself and feel better about yourself. Beauty is not following unattainable standards which are demanding and effortful for women to achieve. Beauty is being happy with yourself. Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself, inside and out.

Cosmetic surgery can help you become more confident. People have different points of view on it but ultimately, it’s up to you if you want to have them done. In cosmetic surgery, beauty has a common point with art; they are harmonious as Leonardo Da Vinci’s Golden Ratio demonstrated in 1509. This equation, described in Vitruvian Man and Fibonacci’s Spiral, is found in all artistic creation and nature as well as in cosmetic surgery. This is this norm that I try to respect while sculpting a body or remodeling a face. Patients have distinctive, specific features which sometimes present an imbalance of their face and body. Thus, the art lies in figuring out those imbalances and correcting them properly. Applying filler or liposuction and fat transfer, for example, is a real art of sculpting, and will only succeed if the surgeon follows art standards. Surgeons should artistically add light and shadows in the right places so that the patient feels more beautiful and confident but can still recognize himself/herself in the mirror and stay unique. My aim is not to transform people to reach beauty standards reflected by social media where women/men end up losing their individuality and uniqueness but to enhance the beauty of each person by rebalancing and re-proportioning their body and face through a personal approach.

Eventually, when art meets beauty, patients’ satisfaction and contentment will be clear as crystal.
