The iconic legacy of Hakkasan, which revolutionized Chinese cuisine in London, proudly brings its upscale dining experience to Bujairi Terrace here in Riyadh. Immerse yourself in the flavors of their expertly crafted Cantonese menu. Indulge in the artful presentation that elevates simple dishes to the height of elegance, ensuring a memorable culinary experience.

Infusing glamor and grandeur in traditional Chinese cooking requires visionary design and passion for authenticity – and that is what Hakkasan has accomplished since opening its fine dining doors over 20 years ago in Hanway Place, London. Alan Yau, the restaurant’s founder, created the name “Hakkasan” as a tribute to his roots with “Hakka” being a name for Chinese migrants (as he hails from Hakka ancestry) and “San” as a Japanese term used to pay respect and honor to a person. The success of the restaurant built momentum globally, expanding its reach to cities such as Miami, Abu Dhabi, Mumbai, Doha, Shanghai, Jakarta, and now, Riyadh.

Their presence within the exclusive confines of Bujairi Terrace evokes the same distinct interiors from its predecessors as designed by French designer Christian Liaigre. Elements of wood, marble, and Chinese motifs like an embroidered dragon and bird cages are depicted in the space, along with outdoor seating which proves to be a popular preference among their guests this season.

The menu sends an eloquent message of artistry and flavor, starting with the Supreme Dim Sum consisting of langoustine har gau with gold leaf, Royal King Crab in crystal jade, and Wagyu beef with black garlic. It was followed by a serving of the Crispy Spicy Beef and the Lychee Lobster; the former had a familiar taste but it’s unique crispiness showcased their harnessed techniques while the latter exuded creativity in producing new flavors from the combination of lychee, yuzu and lobster in one bite.

Of the main dishes, the Roasted Chicken in Satay Sauce exuded the most complexity amidst simplicity, making a chicken dish taste beyond what one would expect it would. We spent minutes trying to decipher what the magic component in the sauce was, only to realize that we had cleared the plate in the process. We also tried the Stir-Fry Black Pepper Rib Eye Beef and Sweet and Sour Prawns and both kept true to our expectations of its classic Chinese servings. On the side, the Egg Fried Rice and Shanghai Pak Choi balanced the savory notes with their muted, yet well executed, presentations.

The dessert course only landed us in exclamation with the arrival of The Souffle, Spikey Lemon, and Ice Cream selection. Crafted to resemble being in a real ramekin, The Souffle’s flavor was rich and indulgent and we managed to slice through the entire dessert (to our surprise). The Spikey Lemon was captivating with its precise presentation, made of white chocolate mousse, calamansi gel, and yuzu cremeux – a harmonious marriage of sweetness and tartness that made a lasting impression as we concluded the evening.

Hakkasan expertly combines traditional flavors and techniques with a creative twist, resulting in an enticing dining experience. The opulent atmosphere and meticulous attention to detail have solidified Hakkasan’s well-deserved reputation as a provider of luxurious dining experiences. At Hakkasan, they truly live up to the expectation of delivering a lavish culinary journey that celebrates the best of Chinese cuisine.
