H.R.H. Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh Region, attended the ceremony at the Residence of Mexico on the occasion of the 208th Anniversary of the Independence of Mexico on September 16, 2018. Upon his arrival, he was received by Ambassador of Mexico Alfredo Miranda.
The ceremony focused on the re-enactment of the “Cry of Dolores”, a historical event that happened in small town of Dolores, Mexico, in the morning of September 16, 1810, when Mexico´s founding father, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, called the people to arms, marking the beginning of the Independence of Mexico.
The National Day celebration was a Mexican-style “fiesta”: full of color, music and traditional outfits. Guests were delighted by the authentic Mexican food prepared by renowned chef Eduardo Perez whose dishes were the highlight of the gastronomic festival that took place at the Intercontinental Hotel from the September 17-22, 2018.
For the first time in the Kingdom, Saudi officials, members of the diplomatic corps and the Mexican community had the opportunity to see a live performance of a Mexican folkloric Mariachi band, a music style inscribed as UNESCO´s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
