Republic of Maldives
Ambassador Abdullah Hameed, a veteran diplomat with more than twenty years of experience in the Maldives Foreign Service is the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is also the non-resident ambassador to the State of Kuwait. Appointed by President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom in August 2015, Ambassador Hameed has been in the Kingdom for almost two years. He has been hard at work in the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives in Riyadh.
Ambassador Hameed started his diplomat journey in May 1991 when he was appointed as the Chief Protocol at the Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs; a post he held for fifteen years. During his tenure, he was instrumental in bringing essential changes to the Foreign Service. He institutionalized best practices and standards within the ministry.
He was then appointed as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and was subsequently promoted to the State Minister of Foreign Affairs. Under his leadership, the Maldives has successfully participated in meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, the Commonwealth, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Countries, and the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation and many more. He became part of the advisory councils and boards including the Maldives Tourism Promotion Advisory Council, the National Youth Council, Maldives’ Airports Safety Committee and the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry.
Ambassador Hameed has served as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in the Maldives and also as Non-Resident Ambassador to the United Arab of Emirates. With such extensive experience in the foreign service, Ambassador Hameed is now glad to be serving his country as Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The good relations of Maldives and Saudi Arabia is thriving and more cooperation opportunities are being explored.
