Now that summer has arrived, it’s time to get ready for our fitness and health goals. Training and exercising will be more difficult due to the heat, but with determination, enthusiasm, and our advice, we can succeed together!

When engaging in physical activities outdoors during the summer, there are a lot of factors to take into account. The humid summer season forces us to focus more on standard training schedules.

You might experience the following throughout the summer: diminished strength and ability, and easy weariness with moderate exertion. Your core body temperature rises quickly, your perspiration production picks up, and dehydration sets in almost immediately.

During the first days of training or working out in the heat, it is observed that many people have a decreased capacity to exercise at the same intensity or duration compared to cooler temperatures. The body takes around a week to adjust to the temperature. It is crucial to reduce workout intensity during the first few weeks so that the body can adjust to the temperature.

Here are some tips I follow when training during summer:

Start early.

Timing is everything during summer. Starting your workouts early gives you more time to easily adjust to the heat. I personally feel starting your workouts before the sun rises will make it undemanding for the body to absorb heat as your body is already in work mode and has risen from resting temperature, making the post sunrise workout less tedious.

Give yourself a “cold wakeup call”.

Take a cold shower; it works wonders to wake you up and give you energy for the first few minutes of your exercise.

Don’t limit your hydration to water.

Hydration includes more than simply water. Electrolytes become a crucial component of workouts in hot conditions.

Stop getting sunburnt.

Waterproof sunscreen is vital as the sun burns on the skin after the session, esp. in these parts of the Gulf where the sun rays are harsh.

Dress for the sun.

On a bright training morning, the sun directly overhead is all you need to impress. Wearing clothing in bright hues, which minimize the body’s absorption of sunlight, and in a size or two larger than usual will assist the body breathe and cool off more quickly.

Recognize your limit.

The key to all outdoor activities is to pay attention to your body. If you feel your body beginning to tire, take a break or halt. You can definitely work hard the following day, but it is best to reconsider your plans if symptoms like cramps, thirst, or other discomfort start to appear.

Most importantly, have pleasure in the training process. Whether you’re exercising to maintain your fitness regimen or train for a specific objective, having fun while doing so will help you stay committed to your workout schedule.
