A closer look at the people behind our partner businesses, their journey, perspective, and what drives them.

Tell us about your role. What does a typical day look like for you?

As Co-founder and CEO, my day is a mix of strategy and hands-on work. I oversee the vision and direction of our branches and catering services, reviewing what works, addressing what doesn’t, and ensuring our growth stays on track. At its heart, Zalata is a family business, which means I don’t just sit in an office. I juggle playing CEO, accountant, manager, chef, and waiter. To lead effectively, I need to walk in my team’s shoes, so I spend at least two to three hours each day in our branches, experiencing the floor from the customer’s perspective. My mornings are for personal admin, while afternoons are spent in meetings and visiting locations. It is a 24/7 labor of love, and that’s how I like it.

What first drew you to Zalata, and what has kept you here?

It all started with a simple desire to share our rich culture and comforting food with the world. As a family, we have always loved welcoming people into our home, and turning that passion into a restaurant has been an incredible privilege. Seeing my team grow is what motivates me every day. Food and hospitality are our greatest outlets for creativity and connection, and we get to live that every day.

What do you think people often don’t realize about your business?

People see the beautiful plate in front of them, but they rarely see the work behind it. Maintaining fresh, home-cooked food with uncompromising quality at a commercial scale requires immense effort. Zalata isn’t run by algorithms. It is powered by a dedicated team that puts its heart into every order. We are also constantly innovating, creating experiences that reflect the seasons and evolve alongside our community.

What is one moment or experience in your career here that really stayed with you?

One evening, I watched a large family searching for our restaurant. When they finally spotted the sign, their faces lit up with joy. Later, seeing their children devour the food and tell their parents they wanted to eat here every day became a core memory for me. In this industry, validation from a child is the ultimate compliment. It reminded me exactly why we do this.

What’s a challenge you’ve faced in your role, and how did you navigate it?

Leading a business is the ultimate juggling act. You have to steer the ship while staying open to new ideas and handling challenges from every direction. I navigate it by staying grounded, being transparent, and remembering that a leader’s energy shapes the team. If I can smile through the storm, my team will too.

How has working at Zalata shaped you, professionally or personally?

Zalata has been my greatest teacher. Personally, it has taught me patience, forgiveness, and the importance of healthy boundaries. Professionally, it has made me a stronger strategist, helping me manage time, make high-stakes decisions quickly, and navigate risks. Most importantly, it has shown me that leadership is about teaching and empowering others.

What do you enjoy most about working in Riyadh?

Riyadh is electric. It is ambitious, fast-paced, and full of opportunity. The city has given me exceptional mentors, business partners, and lifelong friends. There is nothing quite like turning an idea into reality in a place that genuinely supports growth. Riyadh doesn’t just host businesses. It helps them thrive.

What makes Zalata stand out, in your opinion?

I might be biased, but I truly believe Zalata stands out because of its soul. We aren’t just selling a menu. We are sharing an authentic story and a genuine love for hospitality. Our team works with honesty, integrity, and dedication to deliver not just high-quality food but also a true sense of belonging. It’s our authenticity and our heartfelt celebration of our culture that set us apart.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone starting in your industry today?

Fall in love with your product first, not just the idea of owning a business. Perfect your menu, even if you start with just one signature item, and make it so good that it can sustain a business. Then take your time. Find the right people and build a strong foundation before you expand.

Hospitality isn’t a passive investment. It’s like bringing home a newborn. Every day is unpredictable, and it requires your full-time attention, patience, and care. Treat it with love, and it will give back in ways you never imagined.
