Founder Aisha Yun started the Yun Cultural Center in 2009. With the vision of leading the cultural exchange between China and Saudi Arabia, the center has pursued its mission of opening a gate for people to discover the mystery of China.
What is the history of the center?
I started Yun Cultural Center in 2009. At the time, I was teaching Mandarin & Chinese arts in five international schools and two training centers in Riyadh. I put in a lot of effort to spread Chinese culture in Saudi Arabia. In the eight years since the Cultural Center’s opening, we have built a professional team that has worked with and taught over a thousand children and adults.
What is the most important work that your organization is doing for art and culture?
The culture teaches fine arts course and Chinese language courses. It also organizes Chinese cultural activities and art exhibitions.
Discuss the relations between arts and culture with technology.
We are living in a world with high and rapid technology development. However, I believe that art and culture become more and more important for these advancing times. They lead and help technology develop and go to a higher level; with art and culture, technology become richer and more productive.
How do you feel about the cultural exchanges your work creates room for?
This is always the most fascinating part for me. My artwork is inspired by a mix of cultures between Saudi Arabia and China. We are working on art exhibitions between the two countries. We will make a big Chinese art exhibition in KSA every year, and also will do the same in China.
What activities have you done in Riyadh recently? Any activities and events this year?
We have organised a Chinese culture event, three Chinese food festivals and a Chinese culture exhibit in the National Museum of KSA. We have gatherings and activities every Thursday evening. One of our most important activities is now under way; it involves painting a long wall in front of the Yun Center in Arrahmaniya. The design is based on Vision 2030. A team of artists from China and a local art group will work together to bring this project to life. All the ambassadors and their children will be invited and passersby will be welcomed to join.
Are there collaboration/partnership opportunities with artists/creatives ?
Our door is open for all artists, organizations and art colleges. We are always looking for creative and meaningful collaborations to share Chinese culture and traditions.
