Situated in Laysen Valley, the refined urban enclave opposite the Diplomatic Quarter, WADI opened its doors in August 2025 with a clear ambition: to craft a premier Saudi dining experience rooted in heritage yet elevated by modern culinary artistry.

The restaurant brings together the expertise of both international and local chefs, weaving a narrative of passion, precision, and cultural pride.

The design interiors of WADI draws inspiration from AlUla, one of Saudi Arabia’s most storied landscapes. Subtle replicas of ancient inscriptions and rock art echo the region’s archaeological richness, while the interiors—an offwhite palette accented with soft gold—create an atmosphere of understated sophistication. The result is a space that feels both contemporary and deeply connected to the Kingdom’s cultural identity.

We begin with the bread basket—simple, warm, and impeccably executed. In many ways, bread is the quiet measure of authenticity in Saudi cuisine, and WADI treats it with the reverence it deserves. Each piece arrives with a delicate crust and tender interior, a testament to the restaurant’s dedication to craft.

It is no surprise, then, to learn that WADI employs a dedicated sous chef whose sole focus is perfecting the bread, ensuring that this humble beginning sets the tone for the meal to come.

From there, the menu unfolds into a thoughtful fusion of global influences and Saudi flavors. The Hals Salad introduces this philosophy with a refreshing blend of lettuce, avocado, and grilled corn, elevated by Sukkah Madiniyah, an aromatic Saudi spice blend that lends a gentle depth to its Latininspired profile.

The playfulness continues with the Jaranchini, a Saudi interpretation of Italian arancini that offers a mild, comforting flavor balanced by a rich, satisfying texture. In contrast, the Mantugyoza—a meeting of Hijazi dumplings and Japanese ponzu oil—delivers a more assertive flavor with a lighter, delicate bite. Together, these dishes create a harmonious dialogue between cultures, each one familiar yet distinctly reimagined.

The main courses further express WADI’s commitment to honoring Saudi culinary heritage. The Jareid, inspired by traditional Arabian slowcooked recipes, features lamb neck braised until tender and succulent. Accompanied by tahini, chili honey, and soft tortilla bread, it offers diners the option of assembling a refined, Saudiinflected taco.

The Batan Grilled Fish pays homage to the Eastern Province’s coastal traditions. Fully deboned and charcoalgrilled, the fish is complemented by a tomatotamarind sauce infused with aromatic herbs, and served alongside dilltahini and roasted baby potatoes—a composition that feels both rustic and elevated.

The meal concludes with a minimalist dessert: homemade vanilla ice cream accompanied by almonds and a delicate chocolate sauce, paired with a ceramic pot of hot green tea. For those who prefer to linger, the al fresco terrace offers an intimate setting with cosmopolitan views of Laysen Valley—an ideal backdrop for conversation and reflection.
