Fus-ha is the first company in the Kingdom to specialize in healthy food for kids. With a winning team of foodies, health experts, and Global Chef, Fus-ha brings a healthy kitchen into King Faisal School in the Diplomatic Quarter.
Parents out there know that getting children to eat healthy can be quite the challenge. Meet the company that is out to revolutionize the school food industry in Saudi Arabia. Fus-ha is a unique concept as both a food provider and educational platform promoting healthy eating among students. DQ Living had a chance to meet Fus-ha’s founder Noura Al Bazie and Chef Nadim Al Jurdi, at the company headquarters in King Faisal School.
Mrs. Noura tells us about their team’s experience bringing Fus-ha to market:
Why did you start Fus-ha?
As a mother, I struggled with convincing my kids to eat healthy, and noticed how much better their attitude toward food became during the health unit in school. So, it seemed only fitting that the school provide our kids with the full educational experience that they need, including health and well-being.
Tell us about Fus-ha and your vision for the business?
Fus-ha is an educational platform that provides kids with healthy options during school hours. We dream of elevating the whole experience of a simple school canteen and making it more in tune with the sophisticated educational experience our kids receive in schools. We want to teach kids about health, nutrition, table manners, as well as recycling.
How long did it take for you to develop Fus-ha?
It took us one year to convince King Faisal School, but once we signed the contract, we were ready in three miraculous weeks.
How has Fus-ha been received at KFS?
We struggled at first. Our healthy standards were too high and kids rejected them. We had to compromise and start with a transitional stage. Also, once we began explaining what Fus-ha was all about, the satisfaction rate improved tremendously.
Why did you choose the Diplomatic Quarter to launch Fus-ha?
First of all, the DQ has been my home for the past 15 years. When it was the time to choose a school for my boys, I was blessed enough not to look further than my community. KFS is the best boys school in my opinion and the perfect place to start Fus-ha.
What advice would you give to other aspiring entrepreneurs who have a business idea but haven’t yet acted on it?
If you’ve done your homework right… Go for it!
Do you have a motto or quote that you live by?
An Arabic saying that translate roughly: Walk straight, and your enemies will struggle.
What advice can you give to moms struggling to keep their children eating healthily?
1. Trust Fus-ha. It is a business done by a mom for a mom.
2. Be persistent.
3. Have a plan.
What message do you have for the DQ community?
We are here and ready to meet your catering needs. Our Kitchen is inside the DQ and Chef Nadim can cater to any theme or cuisine.
