Riyadh has been a major construction site for the past few years; it’s been building a lot of skyscrapers, transportation, and zones that will improve the quality of life of its citizens and residents. One of the mega projects of the city is the Sports Boulevard, a 135-km lifestyle destination situated in the heart of Riyadh that will help ensure that the city will be recognized as one of the world’s top livable cities by 2030. The Sports Boulevard is set to become the “longest linear park” in the world that starts on Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Road and connects Wadi Hanifah in the West and Wadi Al Sulai in the East. It will be composed of greenery and open spaces and up to 50 multidisciplinary sports facilities. There will be artistic landmarks scattered in unique districts and investment zones that include a Cycling Bridge, Hanifah Valley District, Arts District, and The Promenade.
The Board of Directors of the Sports Boulevard Foundation, chaired by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, has recently announced the launch of the Design Code for Prince Mohammad bin Salman Road.
The Design Code is driven by the Salmani Architecture which was curated by the efforts of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Salmani architecture is founded on originality and modernity. It ensures the improvement of modern design quality and also highlights the current local architecture identity. More on this unique type of architecture on DQ Living’s March-April 2022 issue.
The Design Code aims to provide a modern and sustainable environment that enhances the quality of life of everyone through architectural design quality, urban planning regulations on buildings, parking and environment, land use, and shop signs. This unifies urban structures and stimulates investment and real estate elements as per standards. The Design Code for the Sports Boulevard is a reference for all current and potential commercial and residential property owners, developers, and investors. This will harmonize the design patterns and paths of the Sports Boulevard for pedestrians, cyclists, and even horse rides.
Jayne McGivern is the CEO of the Sports Boulevard Foundation. Appointed in March 2022, she is one of the world’s leading construction executives with more than 35 years of experience in infrastructure and urban redevelopment. The construction of the first phase of the project commenced last October 2021.
