Describe your personality.

I have a lot of energy so I can hardly stay calm. I love going on road trips, of which I have done plenty all over the Kingdom and in the neighboring countries. I also have a caring soul, be it with my family or the people around me. I feel like I want to take care of everyone.

What hobbies are you into? Why do you love doing them?

My number one hobby is working out! I enjoy all fitness activities, especially running. I worked hard to finish one marathon in Mexico and the Ironman 70.3 in Bahrain a couple of years ago. Another thing that keeps me busy is searching for healthy recipes online and finding vegan options in Riyadh. With the recent opening of cinemas in Saudi Arabia, I have restarted my love for the full cinema experience including some tasty nachos and the mandatory salted popcorn.

From which country are you from? How many years have you lived in Saudi Arabia?

I’m from Mexico. I’ve been living in Riyadh for almost four years.

What brought you to Riyadh?

Initially, I came for one month on a visit visa but out of nowhere, I found a job and it has been 4 years since then.

What changes have you seen/experienced in Riyadh since you first came here?

The most exciting change I’ve had to experience is women driving, which I am really enjoying! I just get into the car, play some music, and drive. Sometimes, I don’t even need an excuse to get behind the wheels! I just go!

How long have you lived in the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ)?

I will complete one year in October living here, but I have worked for three years in the DQ. Since I decided to move here, my life has become more comfortable. Certainly, it was the best decision ever.

What were your first impressions of the DQ?

The green on the roads was impressive as it is something not common in Riyadh. Also, the visibility of people having open air activities like walking, running and cycling.

What’s your day like in the DQ?

I normally start my day by walking my dog Halloumie in Yamama Park, then go for a run myself in the walking trail before it gets too hot and over the weekend, my husband and I enjoy having our friends over at home.

What do you like most about the DQ?

I would say I like the many open public areas that people can use to either go for a walk or arrange for a picnic or for any other activity in the open. My favorite spot is the walking trail behind the King Faisal School. Another thing that I love madly about living here is not having to wear an abaya!

What is something you wish the DQ had, but currently doesn’t?

Would it be too much if I ask for a cinema to open inside the DQ? Continuing with the wish list, what about a supermarket with a large healthy food section? A Friday bazaar with food and other stalls where people from the community could go to meet with neighbors and invite their friends will also be very much welcome.

Where are your favorite places to visit in Riyadh?

I enjoy historical places. Old Diriyah is one of my favorites for an evening walk. It’s amazing!

Any tips/recommendations/advice for your DQ neighbors?

Leave the comfort of the AC at home and go out to explore the parks and walking trails in the DQ.
