DQ Leaders highlights the innovators and changemakers in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter. In this edition, we sit down with Nader Ibrahim, the Cluster General Manager of Riyadh Marriott Hotels, including the prestigious Marriott Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter.
What originally drew you to the field of hospitality, and what has kept you passionate about it over the years?
I have always been fascinated by people—their backgrounds, stories, and the journeys that bring them together. It’s those human connections and storytelling that first drew me to hospitality. What keeps me passionate is the constant evolution in our industry: every year there are new trends, challenges, and market expectations. It’s a dynamic field that requires continuous adaptation.
How have guest preferences evolved in Riyadh?
The market in Riyadh is evolving incredibly fast. We’re seeing a transformation in guest experiences, with new spaces, dynamic operations, and an elevated focus on food and beverage quality. Guests are always seeking something new, so innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset are crucial to staying ahead.
Can you tell us about some of the new and exciting developments at Marriott in Riyadh?
This year, we’ve opened Cucina—an Italian modern trattoria—and Nomas, which celebrates Saudi food culture and heritage. We’re organizing more community events, wellness programs, and special occasions, all aimed at engaging our guests and the local diplomatic community.
How has the community responded to Nomas?
Nomas has received a lot of attention from social media, local diners, and international travelers. We hosted a special dinner with Michelin-star chefs and young Saudi culinary talent, creating a 12-course experience with local ingredients. This event really put Nomas on the map in Riyadh.
What are the must-try dishes at Nomas?
Personally, I love the Najdi lamb, slow-cooked for six hours until perfectly crisp, served with aromatic rice from Medina. The puff Medini—pastry filled with spiced lamb—is another favorite. The feedback from guests has been incredible, and I’m proud of how Saudi cuisine is being elevated and recognized.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice came from the founder of Marriott International, Bill Marriott: Look after your people, and your people will look after your business. When employees are valued, developed, and engaged, they bring ownership and passion to their work, driving the business forward.
What qualities do you believe future hospitality leaders should cultivate?
Curiosity, courage, and innovation are essential. The hospitality industry is incredibly fast-paced, and what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow. Young Saudi talent must keep developing, think globally, and blend our hospitality heritage with international standards.
If you weren’t working in hospitality, where do you see yourself?
Perhaps in creative design or managing a football team—something I’m very passionate about. There are many parallels between hotel management and sports: team-building, development, and striving for excellence together.
Are there football-themed experiences at your hotels?
Absolutely! London Circus, just outside the Diplomatic Quarter, offers a dynamic, family-friendly space for sports lovers to enjoy match days, special events, and great food in a vibrant atmosphere.
What message do you have for the Diplomatic Quarter community?
We’re proud to serve such a diverse and culturally rich community. The Marriott Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter is your home—whether for a meeting at Coffee Table, dinner at Nomas, or breakfast at Goji Restaurant. We’re here to create memorable experiences and support all who call this neighborhood home.
