Tell us about yourself.

I’m Khalida Al-Sulaiman, founder and pastry chef of Badoughin, a cloud bakery based in Riyadh. My culinary journey began in 2010 when I trained in classic French pastry at Le Cordon Bleu and went on to gain hands-on experience at renowned spots like The Four Seasons in Boston and Flour Bakery with Joanne Chang. Later, I worked at Paul Maison de Qualite in Jeddah and Selanne Steak Tavern in California, each experience adding layers to my skills and creativity.

When I launched Badoughin, I wanted it to feel like more than a bakery — it’s a nostalgic tribute to 90s Saudi Arabia, combining the artistry of pastry with the warmth of our traditions. I pride myself on using top-quality ingredients to create indulgent yet light, flavorful desserts that capture the essence of comfort . At Badoughin, I aim to create desserts that are anything but ordinary — every detail reflects my passion for taste and my down-to-earth approach to creativity. As a mother and entrepreneur, I’ve grown into a storyteller, using each dessert to connect with people in Riyadh and beyond. Badoughin isn’t just about pastries; it’s a journey of taste, heritage, and community.

How would family and friends describe you?

My family and friends would say I’m creative, genuine, and true to myself. I’m passionate about what I do and bring that authenticity into everything I create.

Who or what have been the strongest influences in your life?

My family has shaped so much of who I am today. My mother showed me how to find balance and inspired me to explore new flavors, which sparked my passion for food. My children keep me grounded and motivated in ways I never expected, and my husband is my constant reminder to appreciate my own worth. Their influence is woven into everything I do.

What brought you to Riyadh?

We moved to Riyadh for my husband’s work, and I couldn’t be happier that we did. Riyadh feels like a shooting star — it’s an incredible, fast-evolving culinary hub with endless potential.

What led you to your career and how has Saudi Arabia helped you in your career goals?

My career began with a passion for baking and a drive to create meaningful, memorable desserts. I trained in French pastry at Le Cordon Bleu and gained experience internationally, but Saudi Arabia has truly allowed me to bring my vision to life. The growing culinary scene here has given me the chance to share unique, artisanal creations that blend local nostalgia with modern tastes. Riyadh’s vibrant food culture and appreciation for quality have been the perfect backdrop for building Badoughin and connecting with a community that values authenticity.

What are your thoughts and insights on being a resident of Saudi Arabia?

I believe we’re in the golden era of Saudi Arabia, and I’m thrilled to witness this transformation. The dynamic cultural and culinary landscape is flourishing, and being part of this evolution is both inspiring and exciting.
