The Embassy of Kenya held a reception on at the Radisson Blu Diplomatic Quarter to celebrate the signing of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by the leaders of Africa in their meeting last July 7, 2019 in Niamey, Niger. The event was attended by representatives from the diplomatic and business community as well as government agencies. The participants were given a breakdown of the opportunities offered by the agreement and assured it was time for African and GCC countries, Saudi Arabia in particular, to take advantage and set up shop in the continent. This is the biggest agreement since the World Trade Organization, bringing together 54 African countries. Once fully operational, it opens up borders and knocks off tariffs for intra-Africa Trade. The participants appreciated the rich presentations and hailed the new agreement as a positive dawn for the world business which has, on most part of the year, faced threats and counter-threats of tariffs.
