German Embassy Wins 40 Years GESALO Football Cup

On the occasion of the upcoming Anniversary of the German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GE.SALO), the German Embassy won the “40 Years GESALO Football Cup”.

The German Embassy was the winner of the revival of an old tradition – the GESALO Football Cup.

With a fun family atmosphere, high-class games, and a deserving winner, the GESALO Football Tournament dazzled the community. In its attractive final, the German Embassy team led by captain Konstantin Göller prevailed against the Airbus team with 2-1 after penalties. Eight teams, including the hosting GESALO teams, the company teams of Draeger, ILF-Tecon & Partners Engineering PSC, the Goethe-Institut Riyadh and the equipe of “Stadium 2030”, faced each other in 12-minute indoor games.

“The tournament was an excellent opportunity for our German and Saudi partners and their families to get to know each other in a lush atmosphere, making new contacts and compete in a fair sports competition,” said organizer Jan Hermanns after the tournament.

The team of GESALO is fostering the economic ties between the Kingdom and Germany for 40 years and helps companies to step into both markets.

A special thanks was addressed to the host Al Shabab FC, who hosted the participants and provided the venue for the games. Each participant was able to enjoy special gifts from the present sponsors Noble Smile Dental Care and the German ice cream manufacturer Giovanni L. Gelato de Luxe. The Best Player Award went to Airbus’ Nick Dippel. Zaid Al Khunaizi of ILF-Tecon & Partners Engineering PSC was awarded best goalkeeper of the tournament.
