France’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia
How did you decide to become a diplomat?
As a student in law and political science, as well as in Arabic, I developed a strong interest for international relations and the Arab world. This academic back- ground, combined with a natural curiosity and passion for travelling, resulted in my joining the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
When were you posted to Saudi Arabia?
I took office as France’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in September 2016. It has been a year and a half since I have had this honor.
What was your reaction when you were given the assignment to become France’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia?
My first reaction was of course very positive! It was professionally very rewarding to be given the opportunity to come back to a country where I had already served more than thirty years ago as a diplomat, at a time when the French Embassy was still in Jeddah. It was a great honor to come back as the representative of France, in such a major country with a privileged relationship and strategic partnership with France.
What does your work entail as an Ambassador?
As an Ambassador, my first duty is to represent my country in Saudi Arabia. In France, the Ambassador is officially appointed by the President of the Republic, and he represents abroad the Head of State, the Prime minister, and all other members of the Government. I also have the responsibility of analyzing the political, economic and social context of the country where I serve. Last, but not least, I have to ensure and foster development of the bilateral relations between France and Saudi Arabia, which entails having a constant and productive dialogue with the Saudi authorities and civil society.
What is a day of France’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia like?
It starts in the morning with a meeting with my closest collaborators to discuss the agenda for the day, and to review the news through the Saudi press, media and social networks. Next, we usually have a series of meetings and talks, often with prominent Saudi and foreign officials, business executives as well as with my foreign counterpart Ambassadors. In addition, there are many events organized for National Days, many lunches and dinners, Economic Forums – it is a very intense and active social life.
What do you like the most about living in the DQ?

What is your favorite place in Riyadh?
I find the National Museum in Riyadh to be a captivating place to dive into the Kingdom’s rich history and culture.
