On the occasion of the National Day of Malaysia, Malaysia Day, and 90th Malaysian Armed Forces Day, Ambassador H.E. Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah and Datin Zuhaila Abd Latif hosted an exceptional reception at Marriott Diplomatic Quarter. This year’s theme reflected an unwavering commitment to achieving the dream of a united developed nation, celebrating and honoring all the sacrifices of the past and looking to the bright future.
Since its formation in 1963, Malaysia continues to pursue an independent, principled and pragmatic foreign policy, founded on the values of peace, humanity, justice, and equality. Malaysia’s foreign policy is largely influenced and shaped by three key factors, namely, its strategic location in Southeast Asia, its attributes as a trading nation, as well as its unique multi-racial demography. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Malaysia’s foreign policy approaches are now based on the concept of Malaysia Madani or Civil Malaysia that emphasizes on good governance, sustainable development and multiracial harmony.
Ambassador Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah in his opening remarks recalled the historical events leading up to these great events and explained the theme of this year’s celebration. The theme Tekad Perpaduan Penuhi Harapan has been chosen, in line with the “government’s determination and commitment to develop the country with the people being united, possessing a high spirit of unity, and living in peace and prosperity.” The Ambassador also highlighted that Malaysia is fully committed to multilateralism in promoting global peace, security and prosperity and will continue to uphold the principles of engagement and cooperation, as well as the concept of peaceful coexistence.
H.E. Wan Abdullah further reflected on the bilateral ties between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, which plays a special role and place in supporting Malaysia’s independence. The Ambassador highlighted that Malaysia continues to work towards deepening and strengthening relations with the Kingdom to a far greater extent, by exploring many other possible areas of cooperation, along with the Vision 2030.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia enjoys a special status in the context of Malaysia’s bilateral ties with countries in the West Asia region. This is evidenced by the fact that, in less than a year since I assume my responsibility as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom, I have witnessed the presence of His Majesty the King of Malaysia, the Prime Minister, two Deputy Prime Ministers, Foreign Minister, and the Deputy Foreign Minister, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
Ambassador Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah Wan Abdullah expressed his gratitude to guests, including Saudi government officials, diplomats, heads of mission, businessmen, and members of the public for their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and honoring this special day with their presence. Guests enjoyed the entertaining evening and delicacies of Malaysian cuisine, immersing themselves in an exceptional festive ambiance.
