September 15, 1821 was an exceptional day in the history calendar of El Salvador, marking the country’s liberation from Spanish rule, along with other Central American countries. On Independence Day, Salvadorans attend street fairs, music concerts, dance performances, and more to celebrate national triumph.

The 2024 celebration was even more special because for the first time in El Salvador’s history, Independence Day was also celebrated in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Earlier, on May 2, 2024, El Salvador inaugurated the Embassy in Riyadh, becoming the first Central American country to have a representative office in Saudi Arabia.

During the Independence Day celebration, to mark these achievements, the first Ambassador of El Salvador, H.E. Ricardo Ernesto Cucalón Levy, in his speech stated: “Working together for the common good and not individually we can do everything, even that which seems unattainable.”

Reflecting on the importance of the day for El Salvador, H.E. Cucalón Levy emphasized that the day commemorate this new freedom and peace in El Salvador – a true independence. “We have come this far, because of the sacrifice of thousands of men and women who have put courage, wisdom, temperance and justice because they love their homeland, just like each of you in your countries,” underlined the Ambassador.

H.E. Ricardo Ernesto Cucalón Levy concluded his speech by stating that the renaissance El Salvador is experiencing and the celebration of freedom are the fruit of a constant dedication to living in true peace, achieved through sacrifice, work and unity as a people.

“True independence that is breathed, gives us the security of now feeling proud to say that we are Salvadoreans.”
