The Embassy of Cameroon, led by Ambassador Iya Tidjani, held a lavish celebration to mark the 53rd National Day of Cameroon. Cameroon National Day has been celebrated since 1972, marking the unification of West Cameroon and East Cameroon into a single state.

This year, the celebration was held under the theme “Army and Nation united for a Cameroon turned towards peace and prosperity.” The theme of the celebration once again provided Cameroonians with the opportunity to solemnly express their commitment to the unity, peace, and prosperity of the country, on its path to growth and development. This is especially important in the run-up to the presidential elections on October 12, 2025, when the desire to strengthen peace, unity, and harmony between the army and the people of Cameroon is clearly expressed.

In his speech, H.E. Ambassador Iya Tidjani highlighted the achievements of Cameroon in recent decades, emphasizing that tourism has become an important factor in the development of the country, as Cameroon is becoming an attractive and sought-after destination for tourists across the world. The country has a number of natural attractions and unique natural sites, which contribute to the development of various types of tourism.

“The excellent historical relations that exist between our two countries now lie on a solid legal foundation, with the General Cooperation Agreement concluded between our two governments—an agreement which Cameroon officially ratified on January 17, 2023,” said Ambassador Tidjani when reflecting on diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Cameroon, established in 1966. He also expressed his firm belief that this milestone will serve to further strengthen and expand Saudi-Cameroon exchanges, especially in the areas of investment, trade, mining, agriculture, tourism, sports, and other fields.

Ambassador concluded his remarks by expressing profound gratitude to His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, for their unwavering dedication and commendable efforts in supporting Hajj and Cameroonians living and working in the Kingdom.

Of note, Cameroon is located in the heart of Africa, covering West and Central Africa and stretching from the bend of the Gulf of Guinea to the Atlantic coast, passing through evergreen forests that gradually turn into grassy savannas until they reach the sandy areas of Lake Chad. Cameroon’s population consists of more than 200 ethnic groups with different customs and traditions, some of which have survived to this day, especially in the north and west of the country. Lifestyle, folklore, religion, housing, and culinary traditions are very diverse. The oval houses of the Massa people in the north of the country are unique in the world in their design. Historical artefacts, which abound in Cameroon, testify to the creative nature of the Cameroonians. Cameroon, called “Africa in miniature,” is a country worth adding to your bucket list.
