When eggs and flour mix, good food comes to life. That’s why when it comes to Italian and American cuisine, new restaurant Eggs & Flour is breathing more life and flavors to comfort food.
A whiff of steam floats away from my cup of coffee as I hear the tingling of glasses and cutlery being moved about from the background. I sit and glance around the relaxed interiors of the restaurant while waiting for the rest of my friends arrive. The menu, much like a newspaper, was sprawled out in front of me as an open invitation to try a pizza, a pasta and many other things made out of Eggs & Flour.
This newly opened resto lounge is located in a quiet corner of Al Kindi Plaza. It is less crowded and more optimal for a day or night-long hang out over drinks and good food. The interiors speak young and modern, with polished wood work indoors and custom-branded plates and utensils. During the day, the windows and al fresco seating area provide a fresh and light ambiance where you can enjoy breakfast and lunch. At night, it can transform into a warm and cozy café.
The food is a fusion of Italian and American dishes with a focus on pizzas and pastas – both of which need Eggs & Flour in order to come to life. They also offer an all-day breakfast menu and a wide selection of cold and hot drinks. As my guests came and the table drew to be complete, we decided to try a little bit of everything.
For starters, we ordered the Nachos and Barbecue Chicken Wings. These two are meant to be enjoyed with your hands and shared with friends. The nachos were blanketed in a rich chili beef topping that was perfectly tasty. The wings were fun-sized but was packing a spicy kick in every bite.
The All-Day Breakfast Plate is the breakfast of champions: sunny-side up eggs, steak strips, toasted bread slices and crispy hash browns. Meanwhile, their Strawberry Pancake is a pile fluffy pancakes with slices of strawberries that gave us tangy and soft both at the same time.
Many items on their menu can look indulgent, but they do have a lot of healthy options. From their salads to vegetarian pasta and pizzas, there’s a couple of dishes to choose from if you wish to avoid meat.
Just like the Vegetarian Lasagna and how it made a believer out of me with its delicious spinach filling in between layers of lasagna, cheese and tomato sauce. Even though there wasn’t any meat in it, it was so good. There’s the Mozzarella Cheese Sandwich, which was light in taste but can easily fill you up because of the bread. The baby mozzarella cheese in between is what makes it special but the lasting taste really comes from the sandwich spread they use to up the ante, flavor-wise. Then we had the Vegetarian Pizza, which was made up of mushrooms, onions, olives and large chunks of tomatoes on top, helping it to taste juicy and sweet. They also have a variety of salad options such as the Arugula Salad with large peels of parmesan cheese and the Chicken and Cabbage Salad that’s hearty enough for two. Try the Venice smoothie, made of cucumber, parsley and lemon juice that will certainly surprise you with how refreshing it is.
As some of us sought to satisfy our inner carnivore, we had the staple Pepperoni Pizza and the Turkey Tortilla Wrap with Potato Wedges. The former gave out this delicious aroma of oregano blending with the smell of the pepperoni while the latter was a very simple assembly of straightforward ingredients: a slice of turkey, a piece of emmental cheese, a bundle of arugula folded into a tortilla bread.
To wrap up our feast, we decided to end things on a sweet note by ordering some Moroccan Tea, White Chocolate Mocha, Avocado Shake and Kitkat Drink to go along with our Hot Fudge Brownie. It was every bit of sweet and sugar that we didn’t need, but when you’re out and about with friends and family, it won’t really matter.
