Farewells and welcomes for new diplomats in the Diplomatic Quarter hold significant meaning. These receptions mark the end of an era for departing diplomats while enhancing bilateral relations for incoming diplomats. They provide a moment to reflect on and acknowledge their accomplishments. With this vision, the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Djibouti, H.E. Dya-Eddine Bamakhrama, established the tradition of farewell and welcome receptions to honor achievements, ensure continuity during the transfer of authority, and strengthen personal and professional ties between ambassadors in the Diplomatic Quarter of Riyadh and beyond.

Recently, H.E. Dya-Eddine Bamakhrama hosted a farewell reception for H.E. Nuno Mathias, the ambassador of Portugal, and H.E. Darm Boontham, the ambassador of Thailand. H.E. Bamakhrama and the diplomats present at the ceremony praised departing ambassadors’ commitment to elevating bilateral and multilateral diplomacy to new heights.
As a token of sincere appreciation for their valuable contributions during their tenure in the Kingdom, H.E. Nuno Mathias and H.E. Darm Boontham were presented with mementoes, and the Dean wished them success in their future diplomatic missions.
The departing ambassadors expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during a transformative period, where understanding cultural nuances significantly impacted their diplomatic careers and adherence to protocol.

As all farewells lead to new beginnings, H.E. Bamakhrama also took the opportunity to welcome the newly appointed ambassadors of Panama, Gambia, Comoros, Australia, Lebanon, and Myanmar as they commence their diplomatic service in Riyadh. The newly appointed diplomats expressed their aspiration to contribute to Saudi Vision 2030, ensuring that bilateral diplomacy serves the best interests of both the countries they represent and Saudi Arabia.
Indeed, the farewells and greetings in the Diplomatic Quarter signify a new chapter not only in the lives of its residents but also in the global diplomatic landscape, enriched with experiences and enhanced intercultural understanding shared between nations.
