Molded about 17,000 years ago, Saudi Arabia is renowned for its ambition, vision, and the astute political skills of Imam Muhammad ibn Al Saud, the founder of the First Saudi State in 1727. Four centuries later, after a series of historic events, challenges and the eventual establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, HRH King Salman Al Saud issued a royal decree to celebrate and pay tribute to the roots of the modern Kingdom every February 22.
Once founded to serve the great future of a nation by Imam Muhammad ibn Al Saud, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has emerged into the largest economy in the Middle East with the wise leadership of Al Saud royal family. The modern Kingdom has steadfastly maintained the pace of globalization, supported the development and modernization of all regions, and is implementing Vision 2030, while remaining true to its heritage and traditions. The significance of the Saudi heritage lies in the fact that it expresses the identity of the Saudis, their cultural distinctiveness, and their contribution to the development of human civilization.
In 2023, the Founding Day of Saudi Arabia was celebrated with grandeur and solemnity to pay tribute to the roots of the Kingdom, as well as to praise the solidarity and steadiness of the country as a reflection of national unity. Saudis across the country took part in the celebrations, proud of the achievements of the Saudi kings in building an emerging modern state while respecting and cherishing its long history.
All regions of the Kingdom and the capital Riyadh were adorned with colorful and solemn parades and performances, allowing families dressed in traditional outfits to walk around the cities and enjoy the streets filled with joy and delight.
In collaboration with the Royal Commission for Riyadh City and the DQ Office, a historic tent has been set up in Al-Kindi Plaza and Oud Square in the DQ, with a traditional souq, live performances and Saudi delicacies to immerse residents in a glorious past of the Kingdom.
